I’m generalising, of course, but so many of those who seem to be good at individual sports don’t seem to come across as terribly interesting people in media interviews. It’s a little ironic when such characters win the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year on the basis of their achievements (“Personality? What personality?” etc).

I guess you need to be driven and single-minded to achieve success in your field and that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a bundle of laughs away from the pitch/course/track. In golf, it seems that anyone who is considered ‘a bit of character’ usually either wears funny trousers, is a racist, or has a problem with alcohol.

Anyway, the interviews with the various pros certainly reflect that. You might be interested in what Brad Faxon’s favourite golf hole is, I don’t know. The worst thing about the interviews, though, is they cut across the menu music, which I genuinely think is great.
